Development around Alewife

Several development projects are in planning stages around Alewife Reservation: the Mugar site, the WR Grace site, and McLean Hospital. (Mugar and McLean temporarily down.)
 

Oil Spills on Chelsea Creek

58,000 gallon oil spill on June 8, 2000; read the DEP page on the cleanup. On August 17, 2000, another 250 gallon spill occurred by the Sithe power plant, and on December 1 a third 600 gallon spill occurred at Global Revere Terminal.

Roger Frymire wins an EPA Environmental Merit Award!
 

November 2000
We have been selected to receive assistance from the National Park Service Rivers & Trails Program! Assistance will come in the form of NPS staff support for our program to strengthen greenways connections in the watershed. A total of ten projects throughout Massachusetts were selected.
 

January 2000
The Mystic River Watershed Association and the Neponset River Watershed Association have been awarded $40,000 from the State's Executive Office of Environmental Affairs to monitor water quality in our respective watersheds. One half of the funds will be used to establish the first watershed-wide volunteer-based water quality monitoring program in the Mystic. Sampling includes sites on the Aberjona River, Alewife Brook, Malden and Mystic Rivers.
